What the Remswelle learns from these waves

  • The infrastructure determines the costs. From around €90,000 for the timber ramp in Salzburg to around €3 million in Nuremberg, where a canal had to be dug.
  • It takes years. Nuremberg needed a good ten years from the idea in 2011 to the opening in 2022, Hanover from 2013 to 2023.
  • No operation without a club. Slots, wave wardens, supervision and insurance are standard at all built waves.
  • Water decides. The Neckarwelle failed in 2019 over water quality; Pforzheim is rebuilding in 2026 so that its wave also runs with less water.
  • The state can contribute. Bavaria paid half in Nuremberg and €180,000 in Augsburg – Baden-Württemberg has no such example yet.
